I wish I had an angel

the spirit of loneliness sits upon my shoulder
he weaves a long, lusty tale in my ear
of abandoned dreams and rejected love
of hollow hopes and grey skies above
he bends my ear with his mournful chants
whilst I, poor maiden
pray for sudden salvation
mine eyes search the horizon fervently for the smallest glimmer of a golden white wing
my ears strain towards heaven to catch notes that saints sing
my hands are clasped and my body doth tremble
Lord,
whilst i wish for an angel
